Jay Michael Nelson

“Mike”

Born in San Francisco, California and growing

up active in many outdoor activities.

Mike was one of the youngest rock-climbing instructors

at Yosemite National Park at age16. Later participating

with the US Ski Team.

With a scholarship to the Academy of Art College in

San Francisco and then on to the University of

Santa Clara receiving an MFA - teaching fine art in

the evenings while managing the custom framing

department of University Art in Palo Alto.

Later becoming partner at Van Kampen Framing Gallery

in Palo Alto. Mike eventually sold that business and opened

J Nelson Framing Gallery in Murphys, California in 1996.

Love of the outdoors is seen in Mike’s Landscape

Impression style of painting.

Mike is active locally in community and arts.
